Leigh Anne Bakel, MD, MSc, is an Associate Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Colorado School of Medicine and Associate Medical Director of the Clinical Effectiveness Program at Children’s Hospital Colorado, where she also directs the Clinical Pathways program. She completed a Pediatric Academic Research Fellowship at The Hospital for Sick Children and the University of Toronto, earning an MSc in Clinical Epidemiology and a Quality Improvement and Patient Safety Certificate. She previously completed a PEDSnet K12 in Learning Health Systems focused on improving outcomes through pathway‑guided care. She is also interested in advancing clinical pathways as a meaningful academic endeavor for pediatric providers. Her academic interests include national collaboration, pathway implementation, and building a Clinical Pathway Learning Health System.

Ilana Waynik, MD

Dr. Ilana Waynik is a pediatric hospitalist at Connecticut Children’s and Associate Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Connecticut School of Medicine. She has advanced quality improvement training and is a Lean Black Belt. Dr. Waynik is the Director of Clinical Effectiveness at Connecticut Children’s. She has published and presented research focused on the effects of clinical pathways and led workshops on clinical pathway development at a number of national academic meetings. She is a QI coach for the Organizational Excellence course at her institution and has served as a coach for several AAP Pediatric and Critical Care Quality Network initiatives.
