Don’t Leave the CUBS in the Den: Creating a Resident Usability Testing Group

Dr. Conor Smith and team at Arkansas Children’s Hospital created a subcommittee called CUBS (Clinicians Using Better Systems) for resident physicians to test developing (and developed) clinical pathways through Agile MD to help refine development of the pathway with input from primary target users. Previously at their institution, developing pathways were evaluated by content experts and a pathway steering committee for approval but rarely if ever had input from training physicians who are the primary targeted users of said pathways. They utilize group sessions with customized testing scenarios and testing scripts to have residents complete “tasks” and provide feedback on their utilization of the pathway through EMR.
