      Hello everyone,
It was really great to meet you all at the conference last week and inspiring to hear about all of your program successes, struggles, and shared discussion on improvement and collaboration. I would love to hear some advice as I’m looking to submit a proposal to our leadership on program expansion. The program is currently small, just me with 0.2 FTE. I’ll be asking for more time as well as more support on the analytics side especially. It would be helpful to hear your insights on how you advocated for this in your own programs.
Just to benchmark our institution, Albany Medical Center in Albany, NY – we are a ~130 bed children’s hospital within an adult medical center with ~100,000 pediatric inpatient/outpatient visits each year. We serve as the hub of 3 other hospitals within our system and have a large catchment area extending into western VT and MA.
      Appreciate your thoughts and advice.
      Suzie

Hey Suzie! It was great to meet you in person. I’d love to hear others’ opinions on this as well. I grew from .5FTE to now 2FTE and hoping to expand again. I think what helped most was proof of concept. I focused on one pathway, got basic data on how implementation of a kawasaki disease pathway reduced length of stay, improved time to aspirin/IVIG etc. The N was small, but it made a difference in how leadership saw the work I was doing (this was what got me the initial .5FTE). I also shared my vision for the work, where it could be with dedicated time- created a burning platform of sorts and really showed I knew where we could go with the right resources. Also aligned it with strategic vision.. talking about reducing variation in care. I now pull PHIS data and continue to show value when it comes to reduction of unnecessary tests/exposure to radiation etc. Tell a good story. Share how what we do makes a difference. I could go on- but that’s where I personally started!
